The Valhalla campaign was created by Jane's F-18 developer Matt Wagner, with the help of Jim "Hornit" Campisi, retired naval officer and F-18C pilot. It is was the first campaign ever released for Jane's F-18 that was not included on the CD. The focus is on realistic operations - long transit distances, required aerial refueling, and inventory management are necessary for a successful campaign.

The missions in this download have been updated to include fixes that prevent a CTD when checking in with the FAQ.

A portion of the campaign synopsis follows:
Given the limited natural resources and manufacturing capabilities of the SRR, the ability to support a fledgling economy has been limited at best. In a gambit to secure the fisheries and oil deposits of northern Norway, the SRR has launched an invasion. With the Norwegian military caught unprepared, SRR forces have been able to strike deep into Norway and now occupy it as far west as Alta. Rather than over-extending their line of communications and resupply, SRR forces have taken up defensive positions west of Alta and have announced the annexation of the occupied territory.

Seeking to not be entangled in the events, Finland and Sweden have declared their neutrality in the conflict. Fearful that the SRR will continue its push west after consolidating its hold of occupied Norway, NATO forces have mobilized a small blocking force west of the SRR positions. However, it is NATO's intent to reinforce this blocking force into an offensive capable force that will retake Norway.

The ctexte.cmp file contains compressed text files for Jane's F-18 campaigns. It is important that every time a new campaign with text is created, this file be recompiled with the new text and previously-existing old text. This ensures that text for all known campaigns resides inside this file.

Old campaign downloads found on other websites may contain out-of-date ctexte.cmp files. All campaign downloads on the TSH website do not included a ctexte.cmp files. In any event this file should be downloaded and used to overwrite any existing ctexte.cmp file.

This download is current as of 1 August 2008 and contains text for 25 Jane's F-18 campaigns.

The missions included in this set represent a sample of the types of missions flown by F-14 Tomcats during the operation. These missions are designed to be faithful to historical accounts.

The Warbirds campaign is a simple linear campaign based upon the book The Warbirds by Richard Herman. This hypothetical campaign follows an F/A-18 squadron assigned to a land base in Saudi Arabia, as it engages in air combat against Iranian ground, naval, and air forces. The book is an excellent read and can be picked up for a buck or two at any used paperback book store. Read the book and you will enjoy flying the campaign more.
